Renato Sabbadini Discusses International Perspectives of the LGBT Community on CCTV (CHINA)

ILGA co-Secretary general Renato Sabbadini was invited to "The Heat", a weekly half-hour news and current affairs talk show program on CCTV NEWS Channel, China Central Television, the state national television broadcaster in mainland China.


Vietnam ministry supports same-sex marriages (VIET NAM)

Among its opinions on the amendments to the Law on Marriage and Family, the Health Ministry and some other  agencies have said homosexual marriage should be allowed, since it is a human right.


Ministry Health proposes same-sex approval (VIET NAM)

Vice Minister of Health, Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien, on behalf of his Ministry, has proposed to modify the Law on Marriage and Family, in which same-sex marriage is permitted because it is the right to live with the true self, the human rights.


Thailand's human rights commission supports same-sex partnerships
(THAILAND)

National Human Rights Commission is pushing for same-sex partnership legal rights, rather than amending existing marriage law.


Breaking Binaries (INDIA)

A study conducted by LABIA – A Queer Feminist LBT Collective In 2009-2010, LABIA initiated a research study based on 50 life history narratives of queer PAGFB (persons assigned gender female at birth), and aided by discussions with queer LBT and trans* groups. 11 of us (many of us members of LABIA) did the interviews, transcripts and initial analysis, and 4 of us have been doing the further analysis and writing.


“Southeast Asian Women want a future with human rights and dignity” (BRUNEI DARUSSALAM)

On 6-8 April 2013, Southeast Asia Women Caucus on ASEAN (Women’s Caucus) participated in the ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ASEAN People’s Forum (ACSC/APF) 2013 held in Brunei Darussalam with the theme “ASEAN: Building Our Future Together.” According to the Women’s Caucus, as ASEAN aims to achieve a regional integration by 2015, ”One ASEAN Community” is possible only when people have a meaningful say in determining their own future. Women demand an ASEAN future that is firmly based on human rights and truly transformative, democratic and sustainable.


Indian child 'critical' after brutal rape: protest (INDIA)

A five-year-old Indian girl was battling for her life on Friday after being kidnapped and brutally raped in the latest incident of sexual violence which has triggered nationwide protests. The girl was attacked inside a locked room over at least a 48-hour period, police said, after being abducted as she played outside on Monday in a lower-middle class area of the capital New Delhi.

The UK’s Equal Rights Trust has just published testimony by OII Australia president, Gina Wilson, in The Equal Rights Review, Vol. 10. Gina talks about her personal background, her work as an activist, and the issues we face in seeking human rights, including intersex and the sex binary, the medical model, invisibility in human rights law, and regulation of family life.

For the period 2011-2013 ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association has operated according to its strategic plan, which was produced by its board in consultation with members and approved by ILGA’s membership at the XXV World Conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil in December 2010. The strategic plan, which has guided the production of annual operational plans, will come to an end in December 2013.


USAID ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP TO PROMOTE LGBT HUMAN RIGHTS ABROAD
(UNITED STATES)

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a new LGBT Global Development Partnership, a public-private partnership between the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, the Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute (GLVI), the Williams Institute, and Olivia Companies, which further promotes foreign assistance to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality in emerging markets and developing countries.

Call For Papers: Lesbian geographies Session at the II European Geographies of Sexualities Conference, Lisbon, September 5th-7th

This session seeks papers that explore lesbian geographies in diverse geographical, social and cultural contexts. These papers can take a wide range of methodological, theoretical and empirical focuses. They can also take a broad interpretation and conceptualization of 'lesbian'. They may even argue against the use of this sign and in this way address lesbian geographies.
